IMechE Fife NDT are now able to provide Industrial Coating Applicator (ICA) training courses from their facility in Dunfermline, Scotland.

Industrial coatings applicators play a key role in protecting the nation’s infrastructure from deterioration. The cost and complexity of modern high-performance coatings has resulted in a high demand for skilled industrial coatings applicators to ensure correct preparation and application; reducing the risk of coating failures and defects, which can be extremely costly for businesses to rectify.

Many organisations now require industrial coatings professionals to be ICATS qualified to undertake work onsite, including the Highways Agency, Network Rail, the Environment Agency and many Oil & Gas companies.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to support organisations with upskilling their employees and helping them gain industry-recognised qualifications,” says Chris Kirby, General Manager at IMechE Fife NDT.

Accredited by the Institute of Corrosion, the course is split into theory and practical elements, with ongoing assessments throughout to test the candidate’s knowledge and understanding of the information. The content is broken down into 12 chapters, covering health and safety in painting, corrosion protection, standards and normative documents, working processes, adhesion and paint service, paint application by brush, access options, tools and equipment maintenance, aspects and impact of environment and painting inspection.

The Industrial Coating Applicator (ICA) course is delivered by a qualified protective coating inspector, who has many years practical experience working on challenging applications all over the world and is also a Fellow of the Institute of Corrosion.

We have worked closely with IMechE Fife NDT over the past couple of months and we are excited to see the first three ICA training courses being delivered to industrial coatings professionals in the Scottish region later this month”, says Kevin Harold, Managing Director of Correx.
